Guiding Principles of Career Development
With a goal of bringing greater clarity and consistency to our national conversations about career development, CERIC has developed a set of “Guiding Principles of Career Development.” Career professionals are encouraged to use and share this document widely. These Guiding Principles reflect multiple voices at CERIC and are intended as a starting point to inform discussions with clients, employers, funders, policy-makers and families. The Guiding Principles include an exploration of the word “career” and outline the many benefits of career development.

Education and Employers
Education and Employers is a UK based charity, working internationally and has a contract to work in BC with School Districts. Originally launched in 2009 the organization aims to “provide young people with the inspiration, motivation, knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to help them achieve their potential”.
To help make this happen the charity works with schools, employers, the national bodies that represent them and a wide range of other partners including the government and third sector organizations. Its flagship service, Inspiring the Future, uses innovative online match-making technology to connect schools and colleges across the country with tens of thousands of volunteers working in different sectors – for free.

A big-tent, low-cost, high-impact Careers Strategy for K-12
For decades, career development leaders have pointed out that students thrive when career learning is woven into their daily lives – not bolted on. The OECD (2020) confirms that even small, early engagements in career conversations predict higher levels of career readiness and eventual employment outcomes. CERIC (2020) emphasizes the same point: career development is not only about employability, but about student well-being and agency.
